2013 Emmy Nominations Roundup

A quick recap of the major nominations, with my quick reactions, including snubs...and by the way, I am pretty bad at picking winners so take it with a grain of salt.

Outstanding Drama Series
Breaking Bad
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
House Of Cards
Mad Men

Who I Want to Win: Game of Thrones, but I will gratefully accept Mad Men.
Who I Think Will Win: It’s probably between GoT, Homeland, and House of Cards…I’ll say House of Cards.
Who Got Snubbed: Other than Downton Abbey (which is fine, but nowhere near the level of these shows), they are all worthy. But unfortunately it comes at the expense of Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Hannibal, Rectify, Shameless, The Walking Dead

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey)
Damian Lewis (Homeland)
Kevin Spacey (House Of Cards)
Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom)

Who I Want to Win: Jon Hamm, if only because he has never won it yet
Who I Think Will Win: Spacey
Who Got Snubbed: Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk), Aden Young (Rectify), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Matthew Rhys (The Americans), Andrew Lincoln (Walking Dead), and maybe the best male performance of the season, HUGH DANCY ON HANNIBAL!

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel)
Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey)
Claire Danes (Homeland)
Robin Wright (House Of Cards)
Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)
Connie Britton (Nashville)
Kerry Washington (Scandal)

Who I Want to Win: Claire Danes
Who I Think Will Win: Kerry Washington
Who Got Snubbed: Emmy Rossum (Shameless), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), and Jennifer Carpenter for taking Debra Morgan up to level 11 on Dexter last fall.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire)
Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad)
Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad)
Jim Carter (Downton Abbey)
Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones)
Mandy Patinkin (Homeland)

Who I Want to Win: This is always the best category, so it rarely lets me down, but I’ll throw my support to Jonathan Banks.
Who I Think Will Win: Banks, but could possibly be knocked off by Cannavale.
Who Got Snubbed: Many…Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), Mads Mikkelson (Hannibal), John Slattery (Mad Men), Kevin Rahm (Mad Men), Jeff Perry (Scandal)

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series
Nathan Lane (The Good Wife)
Michael J. Fox (The Good Wife)
Rupert Friend (Homeland)
Robert Morse (Mad Men)
Harry Hamlin (Mad Men)

Who I Think Will Win: No clue…other than Bucatinsky, I think anyone could get it.

Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series
Margo Martindale (The Americans)
Diana Rigg (Game Of Thrones)
Carrie Preston (The Good Wife)
Linda Cardellini (Mad Men)
Jane Fonda (The Newsroom)
Joan Cusack (Shameless)

Who I Want to Win: Diana Rigg all the way!!!
Who I Think Will Win: Rigg…unless the voters want Fonda for some reason unrelated to actually choosing the best performance.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series
Laura Dern (Enlightened)
Lena Dunham (Girls)
Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie)
Amy Poehler (Parks And Recreation)
Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Veep)

Who I Want to Win: Lena Dunham
Who I Think Will Win: Hard to say, since I haven’t seen Enlightened yet and don’t know how that factors in. But we’ll go Tina Fey.

Adam Driver (Girls)
Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)
Ed O’Neill (Modern Family)
Ty Burrell (Modern Family)
Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live)

Who I Want to Win: Bill Hader
Who I Think Will Win: If they want to continue the Modern Family tradition, they could swerve us with Ed O’Neill…but my gut is telling me Hader.
Who Got Snubbed: Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), Will Arnett (Arrested Development), Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield (New Girl), Garret Dillahunt (Raising Hope), Chris Messina (The Mindy Project), Jason Gann (Wilfred), Echo Callum (Ben and Kate)

Who Got Snubbed: Jessica Walter (Arrested Development), Nina Conti (Family Tree), Zosia Mamet (Girls)

Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series
Bob Newhart (The Big Bang Theory)
Nathan Lane (Modern Family)
Bobby Cannavale (Nurse Jackie)
Louis C.K. (Saturday Night Live)
Justin Timberlake (Saturday Night Live)

Molly Shannon (Enlightened)
Dot-Marie Jones (Glee)
Melissa Leo (Louie)
Melissa McCarthy (Saturday Night Live)
Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)
Elaine Strich (30 Rock)

Who I Want to Win: No favorite
Who I Think Will Win: One of the SNL girls…but again, I have not seen Enlightened and I hear Shannon was great.

Miniseries/Movie Categories: Haven’t seen any of these other than Top of the Lake and The Big C: Hereafter (which is just The Big C, season 4, but they’re kinda cheating here to get more nominations). Top of the Lake was excellent though, so I’ll be rooting for it, Elisabeth Moss, and especially Peter Mullan who was a fantastic antagonist.
